The engagement ring represents not only a commitment of togetherness but also a promise of marriage, a symbol of your pure love and most of all, it marks the special bond between you two. If you’re aiming for that romantic bride-to-be look, then we strongly recommend considering a rose gold engagement ring. Here’s why.
What image comes to mind when you picture yourself wearing your perfect engagement ring? Do you see a piece of jewelry with a timeless elegance which symbolizes your eternal love?
Do you picture a design which goes beyond trends and which you will be able to pass down to your daughter or son as a precious family heirloom?
If that’s the case, then you are the kind of woman vintage engagement rings are designed for.
These stunning rings can be passed down from generation to generation and never lose their allure. They are feminine, have a romantic beauty and a story to tell. Our Mirabelle Vintage Style Engagement Ring is the perfect example. It is both delicate and romantic and features an emerald cut diamond halo.
Now, if you’ve started shopping for a vintage ring, you’ve seen there are a lot of options to choose from. Maybe you even got a little overwhelmed by it all.
It’s only natural to feel this way, I felt exactly the same way when I was designing my own engagement ring. After all, you have a significant choice to make. That is why I wanted to share some advice with you so you can be confident you’ve found The One in the jewelry department, as well.
Start Narrowing Down Your Search by Picking a Favorite Shape
The best way to go about this is to simply try on various styles. Different shapes flatter different fingers, so I recommend first deciding on a thin band or a wide one, for starters.
Most engagement rings have a width of 2mm-3mm wide. Of course it can be wider but you should consider a few things before choosing. Do you live in a hot climate or are your hands wet a lot? (ie a nurse or dental hygienist). If this is the case, a wider band may not be a good choice for you as you can develop a rash under wider bands.
Our Emmaline Ring pictured above may be the perfect choice if you like the look of a wider band as it tapers down along the finger. It is very comfortable to wear but doesn’t have the downsides that wide bands can have.
Also look at different stone sizes and cuts to get a better sense of what looks best on your hand (and what aesthetic you prefer most). You’ll find there are plenty of options available, including:
At this point, it doesn’t matter if you’ll be trying on vintage engagement rings or not. For now, your goal is to decide on the best shape for your finger.
Research the Different Metal Options
Gold or platinum both look incredible when combined with the goddess-like grace of a vintage ring. Platinum is the whitest metal in its natural state and is extremely durable, so you’ll know future generations will be able to cherish it, as well.
Yellow gold with a brushed satin finish is also an excellent choice, but you can also find gorgeous vintage rings in soft, rose gold and modern white gold, as well.
It all comes down to what feels right to you, so the best advice I can give you here is to ask as many questions about the qualities of each metal and what taking care of it will entail.
We can help you make the right choice as far as metals and also we will be happy to send you 3D renderings of your ring in the metal of your choice so you can get an idea of exactly what it will look like.
See What Level of Detailing Gets You Excited
Vintage engagement rings have a classic feel to them, but that doesn’t mean they are old-fashioned or offer limited options, design-wise. Our Marlow Engagement Ring paired with our Thea Wedding Band are a perfect example of just how timeless Art Deco engagement rings can be.
Subtle florals patterns, delicate sparkling diamond accents and subtly textured bands; you can find all of these on vintage rings.
The secret is to find that combination of elements which fit your unique personality and sense of style.
How many stones would you like, how should they be positioned on the frame, how much sparkle should the ring have – these are customization aspects best thought off beforehand, maybe alongside a nice cup of tea.
Also, chances are, you will be wearing your engagement ring probably every day. So another thing to consider is how the ring will pair with your future wedding band. Often times it is best to have them designed together so that they can be made to shadow each other.
Custom designing your own ring and seeing it come to life on your finger is a wonderful feeling every bride-to-be deserves to experience.
Now that you’ve said Yes to sharing your life with your soulmate, it’s time to say Yes to a ring to have and to hold – and to fall in love with every single time you wear it.
Nothing less than that should do, so don’t settle for a ring you kind of like.
Look over our carefully-curated collection of gorgeous vintage-inspired rings and find a ring you’ll love forever.
I remember when I got engaged the first thing I did was start looking at (ok, stalking) wedding blogs. Not only are do they have lovely pretty pictures and inspiration to browse but they are full of wonderful tips & color palette ideas for your wedding.
One of my favorites was Weddingchicks.com. Which is why we are so excited to be mentioned in one of their blog articles 12 Art Deco Rings That Are Absolutely Gorgeous. Yay for us! We had not only one, but two of our engagement rings featured. The Claudette Ring with a Teal Montana Sapphire and our Aurora Art Deco Ring. Head over there and check out their wedding blog, you will be glad you did.
As you have probably figured out we love recreating vintage inspired engagement rings. Actually, we are obsessed with them. Passionate about them. You may notice that the word milgrain is thrown about quite a bit when talking about antique or vintage inspired rings. What exactly is milgrain engraving and why is it so special? Well, we are happy to enlighten you since vintage detail engagement rings are our passion!
WHAT IS MILGRAIN?
Milgrain, or sometimes spelled millgrain is a delicate technique of engraving used on vintage rings in the early 20th century. It comes from a French word meaning “a thousand grains”. Tiny little round beads of gold are set side by side to form a boarder. You will see this most often on our rings featured around a center stone or on our tiny halo bezels. Because it was a technique that was so time consuming and intricate it was usually reserved for the very wealthy or most expensive pieces of jewelry from this time.
THE HISTORY OF MILGRAIN
Although milgrain edging and milgrain engraving enjoyed great popularity in the early 20th century Edwardian era as well as the Art Deco era of jewelry design, the technique of applying milgrain is actually thousands of years old and dates back to the Etruscans. They would fuse high carat gold granuals in rows and borders creating intricate patterns. The process was very lengthy and each tiny bead had to be placed just so in order for it to be perfectly set. They were masters of this and their jewelry lives on in museums today. Many of the ancient techniques of granulation were lost along the way and there really is only guesswork today on how they accomplished such intricate patterns without being able to solder.

Are Sapphire engagement rings the new diamonds?
Sapphire engagement rings are the new diamonds. Not only are they sometimes indistinguishable from diamonds if they are white they also come in beautiful easter egg colors giving your beloved lots of choices to create a unique engagement ring. Here at Rough Luxe we specialize in teal, lavender, peach, pink and yellow sapphires of all sizes and shapes. Mix and match to your hearts content. Or choose a white sapphire engagement ring as an alternative to a more expensive diamond.
Now a days people are looking for unique and affordable engagement rings and our sapphire rings really fit even the most discriminating budget. They rank just below diamonds on the Moh’s hardness sale which makes them durable and long lasting.
Sweet little beauties…a laurel of daisies, a beautiful solitaire diamond set in golden leaves and a raw octahedron diamond set in a halo of diamonds.
Did you know that octahedron diamonds are actually uncut diamonds in their purest form…just as they come out of the ground. If you look back at Byzantine rings or old Roman rings from the Vatican you will see that the rings were all octahedrons. We adore the raw look & feel of these diamonds
When my husband proposed to me in Paris on the steps of Versailles he asked me to design my own engagement ring. I was beyond thrilled to be engaged to the most awesome man in the world…and was just as excited to be able to create my own engagement ring.
There ensued a journey of first finding the perfect stone and ultimately create my perfect ring. I searched and obsessed over what this would be. Pretty much just like every bride to be does.
I was lucky enough to have access to some of the worlds best diamond dealers and had the most perfect stone fall into my lap unexpectedly. It was a very, very rare 1.5ct Grey Chameleon Diamond. It is a color changer and changes color according to the heat & light. This one changes color from a smokey grey to a light green. They are highly coveted…and kind of like trying to find the Easter Bunny…you hear about them, but never really see them.
I was hooked. I fell in love with the process of designing my ring and watching it evolve. I also fell in love with rare and alternative stones. Especially rose cut diamonds.
I also knew that other brides would feel the same way. They were searching to find something unique and alternative for their engagement rings…instead of the same old overpriced, cookie cutter, manufactured jewelry from the big name stores.
This is where Rough Luxe shines. Over the years I have cultivated relationships with stone dealers from all over the world…some of them own the mines. I get first pick of their gems and choose each stone myself for its unique and special character. I always remember that feeling I had when looking for my stone & designing my ring.
To me it wasn’t just a certain carat stone or a fancy ring. It was a symbol of our relationship and the life we were going to build together. It meant so much more. And it had to be perfect. Or at least perfect to me!

An engagement ring is not just a ring. It is one of the most important investments in your relationship and is precious for reasons more than one. It’s a commitment of togetherness, a promise of marriage, a symbol of your pristine love and above all, a bond that will always keep you both tied to each other. It is indeed a monumental gift but is there any use in dreaming about getting engaged when you can’t afford the ring? Well, getting a ring might be easier than you think. Don’t get daunted by the cost, for there are plenty of options of Affordable Engagement Rings. However, the term ‘Affordable’ holds different meaning for different people, whatever you budget is, we have one for everyone. Here at Rough Luxe we pride ourselves in having the most beautiful rings for every budget.
here are the secrets for a stylish and affordable engagement ring:
set your budget:
Well, before heading to shop for your engagement ring, carefully set a budget. Though we’ve got you covered in every budget but at least have some tentative budget in your mind. There is no specific rule for an engagement ring’s budget and everyone has his own purchasing power. Respect yours and spend accordingly. Irrespective of your budget, we have a wide collection of choices to help you select a perfect engagement ring.
choose your stone wisely:
We have already discussed in our earlier blog how colored stones have always held an illustrious position in engagement rings. The increasing trend of colored engagement rings can help you get an engagement ring which is unique as well as affordable.
Moissanite and Diamonds are same in every aspect expect that the diamonds are slightly harder in texture than Moissanite, yet no one can find the difference between the two with a bare eye. With Moissanite almost one tenth of the cost of diamonds, people prefer Moissanite rings over Diamonds rings. Moissanite engagement rings work as perfect alternative engagement rings for Diamonds.
People often have this misconception that Sapphire Engagement Rings are very costly, however, that is not entire true. In general, a Sapphire Engagement ring can be significantly more affordable than the more common diamond ring and can be within everyone’s reach. Having a sapphire as the center stone instead of a diamond can provide you with a distinctive look for a smaller price. We have a wonderful selection of lavender, yellow, peach and pink sapphires…pretty much every color of the rainbow. Please feel free to contact us to begin the process of designing your affordable dream engagement ring.
select a more detailed setting:
A glorified way to get a more distinctive yet affordable engagement ring is to step up the detailing. The price of a diamond increases with the increase in its size, however, smaller sized diamonds are much cheaper. Thus, selecting a ring setting with diamond accents is an intelligent way to create a stunning ring within budget.
choose a ring without a center stone:
Today, people are constantly looking for options that seem unique and trendy. There has been a gradual shift of choice from the traditional center gemstone engagement ring to the non-traditional engagement ring without any center gemstone. Despite of not having a center gem stone, these alternative engagement rings have gorgeously shining diamonds that are affordable but never look cheap. A common example of this would be our Three Blessings ring which features three rose cut diamonds. Or our Past, Present and Future ring.
Give your relationship a beautiful start with an engagement ring, which is as unique as your love and as affordable as your budget. Whatever your requirements are, we are always there to help you take your first step towards your dreams.
This pretty little thing is on its way to one lucky bride. It is a Montana Sapphire set in 14k palladium white gold amongst a sea of diamonds. Montana Sapphires are some of my favorite stones as they can range from a beautiful sea blue green to teal to everything in between if they are a color changer. A color changer means they can change colors based on heat and light.
Keep in mind here at Rough Luxe we only use high quality diamonds…regardless of their size. In fact melee diamonds (the tiny ones for the halo) are often where jewelers cut corners…but we believe that using quality gemstones in every aspect of the ring makes all the difference in the world and really makes a ring pop.
A few beautiful rose cut diamonds (my favorite)…a very special cognac diamond and a heart shaped diamond that I could not resist when I saw it.
Which one would you choose? You can see more of our unique engagement rings from our website Rough Luxe…
